Jan 4, 2018 Why Bother? Kuroda won’t stop QQE while Nikeii hits 23,000

January 4th, 2018

Us Bears give up. This entire financial experiment came from Ben Bernanke believing that the 1929 crash could have been stopped by flooding the world with liquidity. The Central Banks and Governments like China did that, the money flowed to a small % of the global economy that used it for speculation in commodities, equities, property, now cypto currencies. I believed that at some point the central bankers would close the flood of liquidity to prevent their countries being put at financial risk. But Nope, I was wrong. No Government is going to stop this because it’s just to easy to keep it going. Oil is up .76%, Futures continue to push up even after this two day rally. Up about .10%. For us Bears, it looks like 2018 is not going to be good for us at all.

TOKYO (Reuters) – Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said on Thursday the central bank would “patiently” maintain its ultra-easy monetary policy to beat deflation.

“Unlike snow, Japan’s deflationary mindset won’t melt easily,” Kuroda said in a speech at a gathering of bank executives.

and we had FOMC minutes yesterday – for all it mattered. I got my haircut – that mattered to me, and my hair!

Embrace reality. LOL The guys I follow are all embracing the fact that the VIX has posted like 50 of the top 60 prints in 2017 and is still firmly in single digits. For guys who sell volatility (options) – lack of volatility is a huge problem.

For me – I am considering that my current job is getting the house ready to sell. Talking to a realtor Monday. I have repairs that need to be made, plus need to paint, move stuff into storage, get some furniture re-upholstered, etc. Alot of work. Target is getting house on market in April. Easter is April 1. So I will be watching market – and honestly hoping that the Fed doesn’t crash the housing market between now and June!

Roger’s house (my next door neighbor who died in August) – his house has sold, on the market less than a week. For pretty much top dollar. The market in my area has not appreciated alot in the last year. But there are almost no houses for sale right now. In my neighborhood there are actually only 2 houses for sale, out of like 900 homes.

So my job for the next 6 months is getting max dollar for selling the house. I won’t be doing much in the stock market, if anything. But I will be paying close attention – because we know it is all related.

I am starting the de-clutter routine. Nothing on the kitchen countertops. That’s a hard one. Keeping bathroom spotless. OMG

  • Trading_Nymph

Yes ALL related, lol. If rally in oil happens your house should go even higher cuz Tx real estate.(of course you know already), follows that. This is such a surreal world right now, I see homeless populations stronger then ever. I see shipping rates still dull….no mad rush in retail. The reason IMHO that Japan can’t beat deflation is not the aging population, but the wealth division. Money needs to flow to the masses for proper consumption…trickle down is a bust of course. OK, you are right, real things matter, I believe selling your house and waiting to buy will be the best thing!! Central Bankers have nothing to use if we go into recession so world is going to get ugly at some point when they have spent everything. Ouch.

    SO TRUE!

Yikes! Tax hit is bad enough but …. we had a bad bout of hail and our premiums went up like 30% for 3 years. They did come back down, but ….

In the meantime – gold has been up 10 straight days. So much for crypto replacing gold. It was a speculator’s distraction for a few days but the bottom line is that gold is a much larger market than crypto even at these elevated levels for crypto.

Dow – headline I saw says Boeing adding 150 points to Dow. That’s about what it is up. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/boeings-stock-leads-the-charge-to-dow-25000-up-about-150-points-2018-01-04

oil less of a driver here in Austin than tech. But oil still matters.

True story – in oil bust of the 1980s, I sold my house in Dallas in 1987 and was moving to AUstin. Dallas was the last place to get hurt in that bust. I was board certified in oil and gas law. A friend who worked for Boone Pickens was telling me he knows unemployed lawyers driving the UT shuttle bus in Austin. Probly an exaggeration but …. so I get to AUstin, get a job with the Attorney General’s office, no problem (the State has lots of minerals, whether under parks or this huge trust set up for the University of Texas). But there were these California law firms moving to Austin setting up shop in 1987 because there are not enough patent and copyright lawyers in Texas to do the work needed in Austin. So I call Bruce and tell him to start learning patent law!

Nonetheless I waited to buy in Austin until 1991. I paid rent for 4 1/2 years. Austin house prices are 50% higher than Houston right now.

  • panther341

You have to have a plan for what next. I am planning to rent smaller for a couple of years in hopes we get back to a buyers market in real estate. And I plan to trade pretty actively – hoping for some volatility and 2 sided market. 🙂 If not in stock then commodities and currencies.

  • panther341

I think about my brother in Houston who continues to live in an area that floods because the insurance is cheap and subsidized by tax payers and therefore affordable …. We are all paying for my brother to live someplace that floods. Same with you guys in Cali paying high premiums for others to live near forests and canyons and ….

Shell corporations take loans from deregulated banks, buy shadow untraceable cypto and then move assets into gold. As long as interest is paid, all is good.

  • Trading_Nymph

I expect a massive ugly global depression to hit. SPX 577 is a Gann bottom lol.
